Following completion of your analysis, we recommend planning inclusion of the following services:
1. Analysis Maintenance - Your analysis must be updated per NFPA 70E® 130.3 when:
- Major modification to equipment is completed
- Renovation takes place
- Not to exceed 5 years
An analysis maintenance plan will integrate changes to the system over time and is definitely more economical than starting from scratch every time your system is modified.
2. Safety Program Integration - Develop or update and then implement an electrical safe work practices program as required by OSHA and NFPA 70E® 110.7:
- Develop an energized work permit
- Establish PPE requirements inside shock and arc flash boundaries
- Determine procedure to record changes so they can be integrated into the analysis
3. Training - Provide training for staff on safety procedures and protective gear use as required by OSHA and NFPA 70E® 110.6.
- “A qualified person shall be trained and knowledgeable of the construction and operation of equipment or a specific work method and be trained to recognize and avoid the electrical hazard...also be familiar with the proper use of special precautionary techniques, personal protective equipment, including arc flash, insulating and shielding materials, and insulated tools...”
- 110.6(B) “The training required by this section shall be classroom or on-the-job type, or a combination of the two.”
Enable your employees to handle the hazards they are faced with. This will keep you in compliance and protect you from the financial, operational and emotional costs of an accident.
