Arc Flash Hazard Analysis

These calculations are based on available short-circuit current, protective device clearing time and other applicable one-line diagram information necessary to calculate incident energy levels and flash protection boundaries at all relevant equipment busses. Actual available fault current at the bus and total clearing time of the upstream protective devices greatly effects incident energy.

Determine magnitude of arc hazards using methods from:
  • NFPA 70E®
  • - Outlines various calculation methods
  • IEEE 1584
  • - Formulas are based on empirical analysis
  • NESC Tables 410-1 and 410-2
  • - Specific to utilities (line work)
The results will identify:
  • Incident energy exposure of the worker (cal/cm2)
  • Flash protection boundary
  • Appropriate work distance
  • Required PPE (rated in arc thermal performance value (ATPV) and hazard risk categories (HRC) levels)
